Josephine Haden: It Didn't Matter

Josephine Haden: Sanctuary I

This exhibition of Josephine Haden's paintings includes works on wood and on canvas that are a major departure from her previous work.
The show, which deals with the contradictions of celebrity and privacy, includes figures in landscape-like settings.  In the works on wood, soft colors combine with the wood’s textural grain to produce atmosphere and define space, creating a minimalist atmospheric perspective with pop icon figures.  The larger paintings on canvas are more complex and present figures in grand sweeping landscapes, reminiscent of Haden’s previous work, or they include groups of people in combination interior/exterior settings.
